Elie Seksig is an eco-social and landscape designer whose work engages with contemporary ecologies through direct action.

Rooted in foraging and everyday landscapes, his practice approaches design as a relational tool to foster reciprocity between spaces and their communities.

His active involvement in food forests reflects a desire to complexify multispecies entanglements by imagining convivial ways of inhabiting places.

2023, Gijzenrooi

de plak is a project initiated in Spring 2023 in the landscape of grasslands and bocage (Coulisselandschap) of Gijzerooi.

The research led on site, aimed to generate an edge, a zone that would blur the defined boundary between forest and the former monoculture field.

To accompany the site’s transition towards a more hospitable and biodiverse state, crescent-shaped hills were dug in the ground and several plant species were welcomed by seeding and transplanting. The overall aim was to complexify the hydrological and microclimatic conditions present as well as to reduce pressure from the wind, one of the dominant forces on the flat field.

Several tools were used and created to enter in conversation with the life of de plak, including annual weather records, floras, shovels, soil quality tests, permaculture principles, bioindicator plant reading, collective mapping through creative drawing and tours from a local historian.

Since 2024, new visitors have been observed, including Rushes, Ducks and ducklings, mice, toads and newts.
